This moon demo flew under our radar for the first few weeks it was around, but I’m glad someone brought it to our attention. Perfect timing too, since it’s the anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing this weekend!
This isn’t the only WebGL moon demo out there, but it’s one of the most impressive! And extremely photorealistic thanks to all the work that went into finding the most detailed source available for the texture.
Cory goes into lots of detail on how the texture and shaders were created along with some background on where the best texture data for the Moon has been gathered. He also made the full source available so you can dig into all the details.
