While it certainly won’t be winning any design or UI awards anytime soon, Webgl Academy is a solid take on blending the step-by-step interactive tutorial approach of Code Academy with the excitement of Webgl.
I went through a few tutorials and found the learning curve steep but approachable. The first tutorial explains HTML basics, implying the audience has never built a web page or seen JS but would feel at home with the concept of GLSL shaders. Each subsequent tutorial has a scripts.js tab that automatically tracks changes as you walk through the code, allowing for a nice breadcrumb trail to better understand what’s happening. This approach can help demystify a lot of the magic happening for you if you’ve never done 3D programming, used shaders or have been otherwise reliant on three.js for your 3D needs.
I just hope someone out there with some design sense will reach out to them and make the site a little less… barfy.
